2026 Aldford Village Fête

Families, friends and plenty of four-legged visitors flocked to Aldford Village Fête last Saturday for an afternoon packed with sunshine, entertainment and traditional summer fun.

The village playing fields were transformed into a colourful community celebration as rows of gazebos, bunting and stalls welcomed visitors from across the area.

From the moment people arrived, there was a steady buzz around the field as children rushed towards the inflatables and bouncy castle while adults browsed handmade gifts, artwork and locally-produced items from independent traders.

Visitors stopped to admire stalls filled with countryside-inspired cushions, aprons, tote bags, notebooks and animal artwork, while others sold floral arrangements, handmade decorations, homeware and craft items.

One of the stalls belonged to the “Busy Bees”, organised by ladies from Aldford Village Church, St John the Baptist, who meet every Tuesday morning to make handmade crafts and gifts in support of charity causes.

This year, funds raised from the stall were in aid of Celandine Wood Animal Rescue, with visitors browsing handmade items, decorations and gifts while supporting the charity’s work.

Another popular attraction was the Rosebuds and Stooges Club tombola, where queues quickly formed as visitors tried their luck at winning prizes throughout the afternoon.

Vintage car and motorcycle displays also attracted plenty of attention during the day, with owners chatting to visitors about their vehicles and proudly showing off the classic models on display around the field.

The smell of freshly cooked food drifted across the field as queues formed for wood-fired pizzas, while others cooled off with ice creams and cold drinks in the warm afternoon sunshine.

Cake stalls also proved popular, with tables packed full of brownies, traybakes, pastries and homemade sweet treats drawing attention throughout the day.

The dog competition quickly became one of the highlights of the afternoon, attracting plenty of entries and laughter from spectators gathered around the ring as owners proudly showed off their pets.

And while there were plenty of hot food options available, there were also lots of “hot dogs” enjoying the weather too, some waiting patiently for their turn in the competition!

Children were kept entertained throughout the day with games, competitions and traditional fête attractions including Hook a Duck, while both Target Golf and Splat a Rat proved especially popular with visitors of all ages.

Art activities and creative stalls also proved popular, giving younger visitors the chance to get involved while families relaxed nearby at picnic benches and seating areas spread around the field.

One attraction that has drawn particular attention for the second year in a row was the “Human Fruit Machine”, with volunteers acting as spinning reels while crowds gathered to watch and cheer them on.

Live music playing under the shade of the Crooked Barn added to the relaxed summer atmosphere as people moved between stalls, food vendors and entertainment areas.

The fête also coincided with the Aldford Village Beer Festival at the Grosvenor Arms, allowing many visitors to make their way directly from the village green into the pub garden later in the afternoon to continue the celebrations and enjoy more live music there.

Community organisations and local groups were also represented during the event, helping reinforce the strong village feel which ran throughout the day.

As the afternoon drew to a close, visitors gathered for the raffle draw which rounded off another successful Aldford Village Fête.

The event was coordinated by the Aldford Village Fête Committee, whose hard work helped ensure another successful day for the village.

Special thanks to all the volunteers and helpers involved in organising and setting up the fête, as well as to everyone who attended and supported the event throughout the day.

Organisers said they hope to welcome everyone back again next year, and anyone interested in getting involved or running a stall at future events is encouraged to get in touch at info@aldfordvillagehall.co.uk.

With traditional games, local traders, family entertainment and a strong community spirit on display throughout, the event once again showed why village fêtes remain such an important part of summer life in rural Cheshire.

Looking forward to seeing you next year!
